Solace Event-Driven Architecture Enables Hybrid Cloud Computing

When you think about it, events are at the very core of computing, right down to the simplest if-then operation in a spreadsheet. Each event leads to a set of choices, often binary, which then become events in themselves. As computing has become more ubiquitous and has developed into the architecture upon which all business and commerce runs, the events themselves have become more consequential and more numerous. There’s still an event, and each "if" still leads to a "then," but now we evaluate at enterprise scale.

Enterprise architectures that can support event-driven computing have evolved over many decades. Now, with the advent of the cloud, devices of increased power and edge computing, we are moving toward an even more modern approach in event-driven architectures, and these systems have to be operational from anywhere and everywhere, cloud and locally.

Informed by two decades of research and experience, Ventana Research believes event-driven architectures that can operate in a hybrid enterprise-cloud environment are a necessity for every organization. However, these must be adapted to a variety of architectures and fully operational in any private or public cloud-computing environment. By 2023, and to satisfy operational requirements, more than one-half of organizations will require streaming and event data processes with low latency of seconds or sub-seconds.

VR_2021_Streaming_Data_and_Events_Assertion_2_SquareSolace is at the forefront of developing event-driven technology for cloud computing and enterprise architectures. Even as computing itself has changed, Solace has continued to innovate and evolve to meet the needs of the many organizations that depend on technology vendors to ensure a competitive advantage. Those advancements are evident in Solace’s event streaming and management platform, PubSub+ Platform.

The Solace technology not only interoperates across public cloud computing environments such as Amazon, Google and Microsoft, but also with other data and event architectures from the likes of Apache Kafka and Dell Boomi to the virtualized Kubernetes and VMWare. Solace also provides event management directly through the PubSub+ Event Portal, which then integrates with other technologies through its PubSub+ Event Broker, where it can be used by architects or developers in an array of use-cases. The Solace approach to event streamlining – across any platform or system, interoperating across many protocols (MQTT, AMQP, JMS, REST) and various application programming interfaces, and working with edge-streaming technologies (StreamSets, Striim, Adaptris) – means that PubSub+ offers secure, trusted and reliable operations in any environment.

We are in a world where data is always in motion, and Solace has demonstrated a dedication to event streaming technology that is a critical part of helping organizations succeed in this transformation. The platform facilitates operation at the pace of industry, where devices and systems can operate and communicate seamlessly from event to event without interruption.

Our analysis finds that, in order to meet today’s needs and be prepared for those of tomorrow, organizations transforming existing data and event architectures or building new approaches should be looking at event-driven technologies. This extends from the chief information officer (CIO) to the enterprise architecture and development teams, all of whom should be interoperating with technology designed for the most modern approach to enterprise and cloud computing.

VR_Digital_Tech_2021_Coverage_LogoSolace’s approach has always been to keep an eye on the broader needs of the enterprise, rather than just focusing on a single approach or a specific cloud platform or type of computing. With PubSub+, an organization can operate in whatever areas it requires, whether that means a retrofit of existing architectures, changes by developers who need to build systems and applications that will interact directly with customers, or involvement in edge-computing activities such as monitoring and interoperating with the internet of things. Ventana Research believes applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to events to intelligently detect and notify of potential issues and threats, especially when those issues are critical to policies and rules established by an enterprise.

Organizations looking to develop or optimize cloud and enterprise architectures using events and data in motion should examine Solace as part of the approach. Continued efforts to advance its simplicity are necessary for those not experienced in using and processing events, and with PubSub+ Platform in the cloud, just as it has done now that it is available on the AWS Marketplace, offers interoperability through its Event Portal, and supports Apache Kafka.

Organizations in every industry are looking to increase effectiveness in using cloud and enterprise architectures for competitive advantage; looking for better ways to manage real-time customer interactions; and wanting to ensure the availability of devices and systems that are the backbone of operations, order processing, and supply chain should embrace the modern, event-driven hybrid cloud and enterprise architectures Solace can provide.
