D2L is Rated as a Vendor of Assurance in Learning Management

We are happy to share some insights about D2L drawn from our latest Value Index research, Ventana Research Value Index: Learning Management, which assesses how well vendors’ offerings meet buyers’ requirements.

In all of our Value Indexes we utilize a structured research methodology that includes evaluation categories designed to reflect real-world criteria incorporated in a request for proposal (RFP) and vendor selection process for analytics and business intelligence. We evaluated D2L and 13 other vendors in seven categories, five relevant to the product (Adaptability, Capability, Manageability, Reliability and Usability) and two related to the vendor (TCO/ROI and vendor Validation). To arrive at the Value Index rating for a given vendor, we weighted each category to reflect its relative importance in an RFP process, with the weightings based on our experience and on data derived from our Learning Management Benchmark Research.

D2L provides a learning management system, a flexible learning platform which is designed to be used in K-12 educational need to corporate level requirements. D2L was categorized as a Vendor of Assurance, ranking 13th overall in this Value Index evaluation. It ranked seventh in Product Experience and fifth in Customer Experience. Its overall performance was impacted by its lower rankings in Reliability and TCO/ROI, which represent 25% of the weighting in the overall Value Index.

Our assessment finds that D2L could also perform better by examining its placement as 13th in the Capability category, specifically by improving its functionality related to skills required to close critical gaps and advance careers. In the Adaptability category, where it ranked 14th, it could evaluate the level or growth in resources and investments. This assessment was based on D2L’sBrightspace 20.23.1 products available in December of 2022.

D2L, like all vendors in this market, should ensure they meet the evolving needs and expectations of its buyers and customers for enterprise-wide learning and provide it where and when workers need it as part of their work.
