We are happy to share some insights about Oracle drawn from our latest Value Index research, Ventana Research Value Index: Product Experience Management, which assesses how well vendors’ offerings meet buyers’ requirements.

In all of our Value Indexes we utilize a structured research methodology that includes evaluation categories designed to reflect real-world criteria incorporated in a request for proposal (RFP) and vendor selection process for product information management (PIM) and product experience management (PXM). We evaluated Oracle and 15 other vendors in seven categories, five relevant to the product (Adaptability, Capability, Manageability, Reliability and Usability) and two related to the vendor (TCO/ROI and Validation). To arrive at the Value Index rating for a given vendor, we weighted each category to reflect its relative importance in an RFP process, with the weightings based on our experience and on data derived from our Product Experience Management Benchmark Research.

Oracle, a global provider of business applications and data technology in the cloud and across vertical industries, provides PIM as part of its supply chain suite and PLM offering.

Oracle was categorized as a Vendor of Merit, ranking 14th overall in this Value Index evaluation. It ranked 14th in Product Experience where it performed best in Manageability and Reliability, placing 10th in both. It ranked 13th in Customer Experience and 11th in TCO/ROI. Its overall performance was impacted by its lower rankings in Usability where it placed 16th and in Capability where it placed 14th. The two represent 40% of the weighting in the overall Value Index.

Our assessment finds that Oracle could perform better by examining its placement in Product Experience, and its efforts overall including Adaptability to ensure it is providing the PIM and PXM needs of its customers and its PLM and supply chain offering. Oracle back-office and supply chain focus on PIM has limited its potential to fully meet the market and customer requirements for product experiences.

This assessment was based on Oracle Fusion Cloud Product Lifecycle Management 23A supporting product experience management and was available in December of 2022.

Oracle, like all vendors in this space, should focus on the growing requirements for what product experiences are expected and how feedback from consumption can guide improvement.
