SAN MATEO, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—April 28, 2005—Ventana Research, the leading Performance Management research and advisory services firm, announces the release of its 2005 Performance Management Vendor and Product Scorecard, an assessment of over 30 vendors and 70 products.  The purpose of this research is to accelerate knowledge and understanding of vendors and their associated products to help organizations assess existing Performance Management investments or evaluate new ones.

Scoring, based on approximately 300 questions within 43 functional capabilities sections and 13 functional requirements sections, was broken down into the categories of align, optimize and understand.  These three steps are the foundation of Ventana Research’s Performance Management methodology, PerformanceCycleTM .

“Our research and experience in the market has found a lack of substantive research on how to apply information technology to the business requirements of managing performance.” said Mark Smith, SVP Research and CEO of Ventana Research. “While there are dozens of analyst firm product/feature evaluations or subjective vendor rating reports, none look at how to best assess and apply vendors and products to the requirements of managing performance.”

Here is a summary of the findings for the overall ranking as well as rankings to each of the key steps in PerformanceCycle:

Overall – Ventana Research found Geac the overall winner with a 93.8% compliance to the questions followed by SymphonyRPM 4.2 at 85.6% and Oracle with Oracle Business Intelligence 10g and OutlookSoft Everest 4, both at 82.9%.

Align – Focusing on ensuring recommended actions and plans are on the direct path for reaching the goals, objectives and initiatives set out by executives and management, the overall winner for this category was Geac with a 94.3% compliance to the questions followed by Business Objects and Pilot Software both at 80%, followed by arcplan at 78%.

Optimize - Focusing on planning for future actions and decisions to define the goals, objectives and initiatives as set out in the Align step, the overall winner for this category was Geac and Oracle which both had an 87.8% compliance to the questions followed by SymphonyRPM at 86.2% and arcplan at 83.1%.

Understand - Focusing on reviewing the historical performance of people and processes, it enables you to understand how results impact the organization.  The overall winner for this category was Geac which had a 96.4% compliance to the questions followed by Oracle at 95.7% and Actuate at 94%.
