Ventana Research Releases Landmark Business Technology Innovation Benchmark Research

SAN RAMON, CA, December 6, 2012 - Ventana Research published it's newest benchmark research on what it defines are the most important six key technology innovations for business; Big Data, Business Analytics, Social Media, Collaboration, Mobile and CloudComputing. The firm embarked on this benchmark research as it commenced its 10th year of providing technology research into business and IT. The research set out to evaluate the mainareas of significant technology advancements for the next decade and identify how businesses can use them to gain a critical advantage.

In the last decade, developments in technology have changed the way we live, communicate and do business on a global level. These advances in business technology have created a proliferation in information of all types. The data needs to be stored, analyzed, and acted upon to gain any ground in today's competitive business environment. Aging technology systems and business processes cannot withstand the strain. The research indicates that as organizations attempt to makethese critically needed process and technology improvements, theyturn to business analytics first with 52 percent ranking it as veryimportant. This was followed by mobile technology (38%) ranging down to social media (16%). The reasons for this are revealed in the research key insights. The research shows that organizations attempting to innovate do so to drive business improvements (60%) and improve the quality of business process (57%). While the research revealed that all six of these technologies are shown to provide drastic improvements, the use business analytics is the first step identifying areas for improvements and methods to drive change. The remaining five technologies were typically implemented to resolve specific business issues.
