Smartphones and tablets began as consumer products, and revolutionary ones at that, giving users new ways to interact with information and each other. Thus, it was only a matter of time until employees insisted not only on bringing their devices to work but on using them in their jobs. That time has come, and mobility is rapidly changing the way businesses operate.

Many employees today are willing to work outside the traditional workplace and work hours so long as they can do so conveniently. Smartphones and tablets provide that convenience, making it easy for employees at every level to do work: for managers to connect with their people whenever they need to and wherever either party is, for executives (utilizing the fuller functionality of tablets) to access documents, reports and other updates as soon as they become available rather than having to wait until the next business day begins, and for all employees to access the business systems and information they need when they need it rather than just from nine to five on workdays.
